It’s hard to believe that it’s been only three short years since Womanizer took the sex blogging world by storm, unleashing their revolutionary brand of Pleasure Air™Technology on the world. And in doing so, they singlehandedly cemented their position as a “household name” in the sex toy industry, and invented a brand new genre of sex toys. All in one fell swoop.
Sex bloggers were simultaneously amused and annoyed that this new garishly decorated toy, with its unusually crass name, easily managed to get them off. A lot of them admitted that they’d secretly hoped to despise it, and fully intended to do so. But to their dismay and utter disbelief, they chiefly found themselves enamored by the way the toy gently latched on to the glans of the clitoris and essentially extracted an orgasm from the user whether they liked it or not. Ha!
Nobody had seen anything quite like it, and people were talking. Word of this new method of masturbation spread like wildfire throughout the blogosphere.
What was all the hoopla about, you ask? Well, by then, vibration had been done to death. Womanizer’s new “suction method” was something new, something refreshing. The release of their toy chronicled a true innovation. It operated by cradling the exposed part of the clitoris, the glans, in a soft oval of silicone and lightly wafting puffs of air at it, which is translated by the body as suction.
Strangest of all is that for such an ethereal sort of stimulation, Pleasure Air™ Technology evoked one of the most intense varieties of orgasms.
My first acquaintance with the Womanizer brand was with their dainty but mighty, travel-sized model, the Starlet. After trying it once, I was instantly hooked and suddenly understood what all the fuss was about.
Today I’ll be comparing the new Womanizer Classic and the Womanizer Premium. Both toys represent the height of luxury in the realm of sex toys; it just so happens that only one was designated with the moniker Premium.
The Womanizer Premium is the flagship design of the Womanizer brand, and the Classic is a mid-range offering and by far the more affordable option of the two. Unfortunately, but understandably so, the lower price comes at the cost of some sacrificed features.
Indeed, by most outward appearances these two toys share a lot of the same design aesthetics. As far as button placement and shape are concerned. Each one is stamped with the Womanizer emblem, both have dual, plus and minus controls, with a separate power-button located near the base. A detail I appreciate, as someone who’s lacking in finger dexterity and tends to fumble with buttons. I appreciate that I’m unlikely to turn the toy off accidentally.
Some of the more obvious differences are that the Womanizer Premium is just a smidge larger than the Classic edition. The Premium possesses a rather handy, triple-light battery power indicator, so you’ll always know that it’s charged. It also has a special button for its Autopilot mode, more on that feature in a bit.
The Womanizer Premium is coated entirely in a layer of velvety-smooth, matte-finished silicone and bears an elegant band of metallic gold around the base. An accent that lends it a more upscale vibe. Whereas the Womanizer Classic is a plainer Jane edition and its ABS plastic housing is left completely naked and exposed for all to see.
The toys’ functions are where you’ll find the most significant differences. The Womanizer Classic is equipped with only eight intensity levels, where the Premium has twelve. From my experience, however, eight levels are more than ample, and I rarely find myself going beyond level five. So I didn’t miss not having an extra four levels when using the Classic.
Both models live up to Womanizer’s claims of being whisper quiet. But yet again, the Premium manages to up the ante, by being just a hair softer and subdued than the Classic version.
For the most part, during use, the pair perform on par and feel indecipherable on my clit. Where the Premium really begins to outperform the Classic is in the bonus features it includes.
The bonus feature that I consider to be the most practical and useful is the Premium’s Smart Silence™ feature. Via this feature, the toy senses when it’s near your body and automatically turns on. And of course, this works in reverse also, by temporarily pausing the motor when the toy is withdrawn or pulled away from the body.
This simple feature is a Godsend for people with children, and it also solves the problem of who’s going to turn off the discarded toy in the heat of partnered sex. Nothing is more annoying to me than a vibrator lying abandoned on the bed or the floor and buzzing on monotonously. I have to turn it off, or it will ruin the mood.
The Premium’s other bonus feature is the Autopilot mode. Not sure, if it’s because, I’m a self-declared control freak or what it is, but this feature is not for me. Once it’s engaged, as the name suggests, the toy goes into random mode. Sort of like hitting shuffle on a playlist, it begins choosing the settings for you. It sounds good, in theory. There’s that phrase again, you know what that means don’t you?
From my own experience, I found the Autopilot mode to be far too gentle and too slow of a build up for my tastes. Each time I tried it, I eventually grew impatient waiting for an orgasm to make its appearance. I guess I’m more of a “lead foot” when it comes to sex toy settings, ramping it up to the highest setting I can endure, right from the start, and getting off as quick as I can. I know it’s not a race; it’s just a bad habit of mine. One I’m working on at the moment.
By and large, I could easily call this a draw, both toys get me off with equal proficiency, and both include the features I deem essential in a luxury toy, i.e., being water-proof, rechargeability, and quick and certain sanitation.
The Classic, for the most part, stands up nicely to the Premium. There are only a couple bonus features that set the Womanizer Premium apart from the Womanizer Classic and ultimately it will be up to you whether you deem them worthy of the disparity in price.
