I’ve inwardly dubbed 2019 the year of the wand. It’s hard to deny there’s been a recent resurgence and rise in popularity of these dynamos. The PalmPower Extreme carries on with the genre’s tradition of clit thrumming power, simply repackaged with a modernized twist.
The PalmPower Extreme signifies a definitive new take on, what some folks might have mistakenly written off as an archaic and outmoded method of self-gratification. Full-sized wands could rightly be described as awkward and unwieldy beasts. Some might even go so far as to call them artless hunks of plastic, thanks to their cold, clinical visage — a holdover from their past life as back massagers.
Admittedly this sentiment is not entirely wrong.
Wands are the living dinosaurs of the sex toy world. Like the present-day crocodiles, today’s wands are large, rudimentary, and excessively powerful relics — displaying the uncultivated characteristics of a bygone era.
And it’s because they still possess these features that after all these years they’re still at the top of the food chain. They remain, as of yet, unmatched and unchallenged in their capacity for raw, unbridled, unfocused power.
Relic or not, no one would dare argue a wand’s deft capabilities if they’ve ever employed one while frantically seeking a quick means to an orgasmic end.
It was out of sheer necessity that they were first repurposed in the modern-day pursuit of pleasure. Hats off to the innovative, forward-thinking, Betty Dodson, for introducing them to the collective hive mind.
Simply put, the PalmPower Extreme is what the Magic Wand could have been (or perhaps, should have been, but regrettably isn’t) had it been designed with its current vocation in mind. Or, more specifically, had it been devised with sexual pleasure as the primary objective.
The first thing you’re likely to notice about the Extreme is its highly distinctive angled, silicone head. The overall size and form are evocative of the Tantus Rumble, an earlier design that sadly failed to gain much traction. Its ultimate demise, a result of Tantus making no attempts to correct the often-repeated criticism of mediocre vibrations.
Apart from the cleverly angled head, and potent vibrations, I am delighted by the PalmPower Extreme‘s lightweight build. As I previously remarked, full-sized wands are notorious for their inconvenient heft.
After comparing the Extreme to both, the Magic Wand, and the Le Wand Rechargeable, the difference is striking. This radical reduction in weight, coupled with the toy’s unique angle, could help alleviate hand fatigue due to the smaller expenditure of energy.
I have no qualms with the button arrangement or their functionality. The Extreme is equipped with a separate on/off button and mode select button. A superior arrangement for the less agile among us, me included. I also applaud BMS’s choice in including a scrolling option alongside their customary press and hold feature.
By simply pressing and holding the mode button, I can incrementally ramp up the speed. Love it or hate it, it certainly affords me a more nuanced method of control. Fair warning, it can take some time to master this feature, without accidentally shutting off the toy.
The PalmPower Extreme’s motor is evenly matched against all the other popular wands. Falling somewhere on the scale between the Magic Wand Rechargeable, and the Le Wand full-size. Let’s put it this way, I am not at all disappointed, and likely neither will you.
Whether you choose the PalmPower Extreme over any of the other iconic full-sized wands comes down to the external design. If you’re in the market for a more thoughtful and contemporary design, one with ergonomic features, you simply can’t go wrong with the aptly named, Extreme. Power is not an issue, and it rightly earns a spot amongst the other Hall of Famer wands we’ve grown to love.
Where Tantus dropped the ball on power, BMS picked it and ran with it. The Extreme has a much more robust motor, vroom, vroom, baby!
