In theory, on paper, hypothetically speaking; however, you want to put it, the Liberator Axis looks to be an obvious choice and a practical accessory for any toy aficionado’s collection. A toy mount is the next logical step, right? And depending on what your expectations for using it are, be they solo or coupled, the Axis could potentially be a worthy choice.
But then again, perhaps not.
Bear with me. I’ll return to this crucial factor in a just moment.
Before I delve too deeply into all the technicalities and minutia involved in using the Axis, let me start by covering just the basics.
This particular Liberator mount is a triangular-shaped wedge that is smartly designed with two strategically placed openings meant to accommodate any, and perhaps all, traditional wand-style vibrators. Including all the familiar brands; Hitachi, Doxy, and Le Wand. Be they corded or of the wireless variety. Along with being compatible with most generic and white label wands out there.
There’s a centrally located slot that holds the wand itself, and a smaller opening on the right-hand side meant to snake the electrical cord through.
In my personal experience, the Axis toy mount also works marvelously with dildos and mid-sized wands, besides. In case you’re uncertain of what I mean by mid-sized, I’m referring to vibrators like the Sola Cue, the OhMiBod Cuddle, or the Swan Squeeze Curve.
As usual, the Axis demonstrates the same level of excellence and craftsmanship that I’ve come to expect from the leading sex enhancement manufacturer brand, Liberator.
Like all of Liberator’s designs, it is fashioned from a firm, foam inner-core, sheathed in two outer layers. The Axis mount, measures in at 20-inches by 20-inches by 7-inches. Making it identical in height to my most prized positional aid, the Liberator Wedge. While, also, making it 4-inches smaller across the top.
The outermost layer, the one that will be in contact with your skin, is stitched from a supple 100% polyurethane fabric. This fabric feels ultra swanky and practically begs to be stroked. You’re liable to find yourself dragging and swirling your fingers against its plush surface, tracing designs into its silky smooth, velvety finish.
This outer cover unzips and is also designed to be removable. And if you’re wondering, yes, the fabric is machine washable. So, great news! You can toss the Axis’s cover in the wash with the rest of your laundry. No fuss, no muss.
The second layer or the liner is a black, fluid-resistant polyester shell that serves as a barrier separating the inner foam core from the outer coverlet. Working as an added layer of protection, it aids in preventing leaks and dampness from soaking through to the foam core. Fyi, it also has a zipper and is completely removable and washable, too.
Now, for the most crucial element. I must encourage you to keep your expectations for the Axis on the realistic side. Understandably, the diagrams of adventurous positions displayed on the Liberator site can set the bar for expectations pretty high. I’m guilty of getting swept up by them myself. Somehow forgetting that I’m a middle-aged woman who isn’t particularly flexible.
I assure you that establishing easily achievable goals will leave you feeling less discouraged with the Axis’s overall performance.
Be realistic with yourself, most of us are not gymnasts or contortionists who can bend and shape our bodies into poses as complicated and challenging as the origami Crane I labored to complete in my sixth-grade art class. Wow, speaking of which, that thing was a nightmare to complete. This, oftentimes precludes the majority of us from successfully reproducing some of the more demanding positions Liberator has invented.
Sometimes simply following your instincts is a much sounder option. Instead of attempting to adhere to a predetermined mission or goal. Remember, nothing should ever be set in stone.
Strictly enforced guidelines can take all the fun and spontaneity out of whatever you’re doing, be it sex, a vacation itinerary, whatever the case may be.
The same goes here, the answer to whether you’ll enjoy the Liberator Axis may indeed, lie in what you have in mind while using it.
Myself, I dreamt of using the Axis with my partner in the “doggie style” sex position. I’d envisioned myself casually draped over the V-shaped pillow, while my partner eagerly took me from behind.
We’d soon be having contemporaneous orgasms out the wahzoo.
Errrrrk! What was that, you ask. Well, that was the breaks being slammed on that particular idea.
Unfortunately, my expectations for this specific scenario were swiftly and utterly annihilated. Try as we might we were never quite able to maneuver into a position that provided me with enough contact with whichever vibrator we were using at that moment. (We tried a half a dozen.) While simultaneously allowing him the right height and angle to enter me vaginally from behind. We could always seem to manage one, but not the other.
Believe me, when I say we’re not quitters. We tried the Axis on the bed, on the floor, bent over the sofa, standing, kneeling, lying face down, but always with the same results. Desperate as I was to make this work, it just wasn’t in the cards. Bless my partner for his patience for indulging me during all our trials and errors. He was always ready and willing when I’d say, “Hey, I have an idea, let’s try it like this!”
I’m not sure if the problem is linked to our individual heights. I’m 5’4′ and he is 5’9.” I really don’t know. But, I suppose there’s always a risk you run into when adding more than one person to the mix. As we all know, human bodies are like snowflakes, no two are exactly alike. So designing a sex pillow that will work with everybody, in exactly the same ways cannot be done.
So, I take it that it’s pretty obvious as to why I caution those of you who are thinking of buying the Axis with the solemn intent of mimicking this specific position. As you’re inclined to be, like me, highly disappointed in the results.
However, if you’re willing to keep an open mind and ready to adapt and go with the flow, you may be glad you took the gamble, after all.
Naturally, I moved on from my strictly scripted approach in the bedroom and began to let my body intuitively tell me how to use the Axis. I unearthed a number of uses that were just as pleasurable as the one I’d initially had my heart set on.
For example, using the Axis toy mount with my one of my wands or a dildo while I gave my partner a blow job. I’m able to straddle and grind against the vibrator or slide up and down on a dildo while I am actively pleasuring him. Bonus points all around!
Another of my favorite ways to use the Axis is alone. Here, your methods are near boundless. You’re really only restricted from using smaller sized or bullet vibrators.
I particularly relish lying on my flat on my back, with my legs elevated and resting on the Axis. This position places the Wand precisely dead center between my thighs. This means my hands are entirely free.
You can do this just as easily while down on all fours. This is actually my preferred way to use the Axis with a dildo. It also works nicely while in the reverse cowgirl pose.
So to wrap things up. I again, want to urge you to set sensible goals for using the Axis or for that matter any of the Liberator pillows. The diagrams on the Liberator website can set some unreasonable expectations.
Crafting a pillow that will work with 100% of our body types is nearly impossible. So don’t limit yourself with preconceived ideas of what you should or shouldn’t be able to do with your toy mount. Be willing to adapt and try not to cling to rigid ideas, and you’ll likely enjoy the Liberator Axis.
The Liberator Wedge will still remain my go-to Liberator shape for couples time, but during my alone time, the Axis is a nice addition.
