Hmm… perhaps, I don’t know… just maybe… Cal Exotics might have screwed up royally when they chose to name their hot pink, vaguely tongue-shaped vibrator, the Flicker. The combination of all three, the name, the shape, and the color have the potential to elicit some disturbing mental imagery. Or more explicitly, nightmarish fantasies of a creepy, disembodied tongue lapping ferociously at one’s genitals.

Like something straight out of a B-rated horror movie; I envision the tongue-shaped Flicker scurrying menacingly along my bedroom floor, leaving behind a trail of slime. This happening after, I, awash in a mixture of terror and disgust, have successfully managed to wrest it to the ground.

I admit, however, that I do have a particularly vivid and unusually macabre imagination.

All the same, I genuinely believe it’s hard enough to take a tongue-shaped vibrator seriously, without giving it such a misnomer of a name. And on top of that, choosing to manufacture it in such a godawful shade of straight-out-of-the-nineties neon pink. A color I can appreciate at times, just not in this particular set of circumstances.

There’s a fine line between campy and just plain hideous. One that you never want to cross.

Oh, and by the way, just so we’re clear, the Flicker doesn’t even flicker. Not at all, not even slightly. Nope, it only vibrates. A somewhat misleading name, isn’t it?

While I’m sure, this little tidbit comes as an immense relief for most of you. It could, likewise, be perceived as an enormous letdown for someone who purchased this toy believing it does, ya know, in fact, flicker. As the name insinuates, it should, right?

Me? I was a game for either scenario.

Here’s the gist, the Flicker is an affordably priced vibrator, from Cal Exotics Mini Marvels collection. Just one, out of the six vibrators that make up the entirety of the line. All of which are priced (at the time of this review,) right around fifty dollars at SheVibe.

And despite its resemblance to a novelty item, one that would be at home on a shelf of curiosities. Possibly, sitting alongside a set of chattering, wind-up teeth, or lolling out the mouth of a Gene Simmons doll, it’s really not all that bad of a vibrator.

Personally, I chose the Flicker from among all the other Mini Marvels due to its steeply narrowing tip. Yes, I’m alluding to what I perceived to be its pinpoint capacities.

As far as size goes, it’s not an overly large toy. Measuring in at 5″ x 1.7,” making it discreet enough to be travel-friendly. That along with its quiet motor and three-second power-up delay. Which Cal Exotics describes and intends to double as a travel lock. For a little extra peace of mind for those times when the Flicker will be jostling around loosely in your carry-on.

Although, personally, I find this 3-second lag to be a nuisance in my day to day usage of the vibrator. I will always and forever prefer a toy with buttons that have a lightning-quick response time and one that is equipped with a separate and dedicated travel-lock mechanism.

Sufficient, adequate, “so-so,” these are all words the Flicker brings to mind. This plays into why I’m only giving it a grade of a C to C+.

Yes, the motor does possess an ample measure of strength, enough to dependably produce orgasms. At the same time, I can’t help thinking it has the potential to offer more. It seems to me, that a majority of the power gets swallowed up by the toy’s outer-layer of silicone.

Not only that, but I also found out the bulk of the motor’s strength promptly fades away as I push the vibrator more firmly against my body. With this being the case, the Flicker works best for me if I go with a more refined approach. One where I gently kiss the tapered tip against my clit. Forgoing my usual pressing and grinding methods of masturbation.

I can’t in good conscience steer you completely clear of the Flicker. How could I? When it gets me off just fine. It’s just I can’t help but crave just a tad more power. Every single time I use it, I anticipate there will be another level above the highest steady function. Then I scroll through each of them and realize, yet again, that I’ve already maxed it out and I have to make do with what it has to offer.

There is only one pulsating pattern, out of all ten, that affords me with the intensity of vibrations I favor.

Just to give you an idea, the quality of vibrations are comparable to the ones I associate with the Crave Flex. But possibly just a jag or two stronger than the Flex. They are passible, but beyond that, they just don’t rate as profoundly penetrating and are lacking the thump I enjoy with rumblier vibes.

The Flicker’s vibrations are reduced only to the surface level and unfortunately, feel somewhat subdued. Again, I believe this is largely due to the plush, silicone padding acting as a kind of shock absorption.

Y’all, this toy presents me with a true dilemma. There is no way I can go the whole hog and completely trash the Flicker. As bad as I want to, it is a toy that legitimately has and serves a purpose. It’s just that, I happen to know there are better options available for right around the same price point and some that are actually priced for much less. Both, the Mini Swan Wand and Blush’s Noje Mini Wand, are the first two that come to mind. Another good one is OhMiBod’s Cuddle Mini.

So in closing, I present you with a question. Take it as my final thought on the Flicker.

When it comes to my hard-earned money mediocre vibes will never do. What about you?
